Argentina: Companies Work for Gender Equity

The results showed Argentinian companies’ adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for 2030. It was possible to verify an advance in gende equity since. In 2018, 70% of companies worked on this objective compared to 63% in 2016.

Gender equity’s challenges

However, Argentinian companies need still to cover a lot of ground. The labor insertion is lower in women than in men. Three out of every four men seek work or are employed. Meanwhile, only 53.2% of women are in the same situation. The situation is similar regarding unemployment: between women, it reaches 11.2% while the male index reaches 7.3%.

There are opportunities to improve labor inclusion and gender parity in Argentina, according to the human resources consultancies. For example, the application of flexible working days or even greater adoption of remote work by companies.

Other initiatives propose greater inclusion within the leadership roles in the company or mentoring of professional women during their career. Companies must set clear and measurable objectives regarding women’s inclusion in different jobs.

Gende equity is a pending issue not only in Argentina but also in the rest of the continent. However, there are reasons to be optimistic. The situation will change in the coming years.
