Marcelo Claure: Early days

In 1997, Marcelo Claure started in the world of entrepreneurship as a co-founder of Brightstar Corporation; a company focused on the distribution of mobile devices. This company, founded in Miami, focused on the Latin American market and grew to the point that today it operates in more than 50 countries on all continents. In 2014, Claure became CEO of Sprint Corporation, a telecommunications company.

Marcelo Claure: Career

Marcelo Claure began to interact with Softbank in 2013 when this Japanese company became the majority owner of Brightstar. At that time, Claure accepted the challenge of transforming Sprint, a telecommunications operator in the United States. As soon as Sprint was successfully sold to T-Mobile USA, Claure becames Chief of Operating Officer at Softbank Group.

In March 2019, the company announced that Marcelo Claure would lead operations for Softbank in Latin America, where $ 5 billion of investments will be destined for the region.

Marcelo Claure also owns two soccer teams: Club Bolívar of the Bolivian league and the Miami International Soccer Club of the MLS. Besides, he has been part of the FIFA’s Committee Fair Play and Social Responsibility.

The World Economic Forum named Marcelo Claure as Young Global Leader, Ernest & Young gave him the Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce appointed him Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year. Global Telecoms Business placed him on the “Forty Under Forty” list of leaders.
