Lakeysha Hallmon: Early days
Hallmon is originally from Mississippi and graduated from Tougaloo College. She started as an entrepreneur in April 2016 to provide a space for businesses of African-American people in the United States and help them reach a wider audience.
The main inspiration for Hallmon was his grandmother Bobbie Smith. She created patterns and sewed wedding dresses. Hallmon did not realize until years later that his grandmother was an entrepreneur who tried to use her talents to feed her younger children.
Lakeysha Hallmon: Career
In April 2016, Lakeysha Hallmon initiated “The Village Market ATL,” to create a space for businesses run by African-American people so that they could reach a May audience. Since its launch, the market has hosted 818 companies, allowed the circulation of $ 600,000, and has received more than 3,200 attendees.
Hallmon says she initiated Village Market “because there was a need to provide more exposure to businesses run by African-American people who operate at a level of excellence.” Our programs are designed to help small businesses receive capital, resources, and achieve an operable ecosystem. “
Village Market also includes a clinic with 20 black doctors offering free services, as well as business owners who learn how to scale and attract more clients.
