Blanca Treviño: Early days

Blanca Treviño graduated from the ITESM Monterrey Campus. When she started her studies, she regretted choosing that career since all her classmates were male and she was intimidated by it, thinking of changing so she could study Marketing. Despite that, her dad had already started to brag about how his daughter was studying in what was then a new field, and he told her that he couldn’t accept a daughter who was afraid. So she decided to stay with the career and finish it.

When she was working at Alfa, one of the largest companies in Monterrey, she became convinced that she had to think bigger.

Blanca Treviño: Career

Treviño was fired in Alfa, so she decided that it was the moment for starting her own company. In 1982, she co-founded Softtek, working with nine other people and starting with just $ 10,000. By then they dreamed that it was going to become a global company.

The company has grown considerably since that day, currently having more than 9,000 employees and having thirty offices throughout Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Some of its main centers are located in Bangalore, India, La Coruña, Spain, in addition to four important headquarters in Mexico, located in Monterrey, Ensenada, Aguascalientes, and Mexico City. Softtek was able to expand into the United States thanks to an initiative by Treviño. This initiative called the “nearshore” that takes advantage of the geographic proximity of Mexico to bring cheap labor and remote work.

Some of the acquisitions made by Softtek include Systech in February 2012, which is a company with expertise in SAP solutions. In August of the same year, they acquired SCAi and its American subsidiary, VTEC group. This company has a reputation for its business software and has more than 100 successful projects in Europe, the United States, and Mexico.
