After the launch of Smartick Lectura, it incorporated Leoteca, a free virtual community for families and teachers that allows children and adolescents to follow the reading evolution.
Intending to foster interest in literature among the little ones and share experiences and recommendations in a virtual community according to the profiles and literary tastes of each child, Smartick, the online math, and reading learning method, has acquired Leoteca, according to Chilean media TrendTic.
Children reading books for free
On this platform, children can comment on the books they read and access an extensive catalog of more than 55,000 titles of children’s and young people’s literature from almost 400 publishers, organized by reading level, gender, authors, etc. They can also create their own library, share their opinion of the books they read with their friends or classmates, and select their next reading from reviews and comments posted by other children.
In this free virtual community parents and teachers play a fundamental role since they can follow in detail the evolution of their children or students, keep up to date with literary news, suggest readings adapted to the interests and tastes of each child, prepare questionnaires about the books that minors are reading in class and contact other families or teachers of their children.
For Javier Arroyo, co-founder of Smartick, “the Leoteca format is very useful to search for references, titles and opinions of other readers, for this reason, we have decided to incorporate it into our online educational proposal to promote interest in reading. In addition, we redesigned the virtual community based on our experience in educational platforms and we hope that children can develop their critical sense by choosing the titles they like the most, express their opinions about the readings and meet other readers, in short, discover what to read. It can be a very fun hobby ”, says the expert.
