Truong Manh Quan was born and raised in Hanoi, VIetnam. He studied computer engineering at public Vietnamese university PTIT (Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology) from 2008 to 2013.
While studying at PTIT, Quan Truong was a freelance developer building website plugins. A few months before getting his engineer’s degree (some sources identify him as a college dropout), in 2012, he launched Siêu Web, a drag-n-drop website builder designed to make it easy for non-developers to create a website for the local market. He sold Siêu Web to Sapo-Bizweb the same year he had officially launched it.
In 2014, Quan Truong founded (with Phuong Anh Ha) Selling Tribe, a solution which aimed to facilitate sales generation through social networks, and Beeketing, an automated marketing service, which topped the rankings of the Shopify Appstore only a few months after it launched. and reached +10K Shopify customers in early 2015. Hajime Hotta was an early investor in Truong’s development projects. In October 2015, Beeketing raised funds from 500 Startups which had just launched a $10-million fund to invest in Vietnamese startups.
In parallel, in 2014 and 2015, he followed training courses at the Founder Institute to fine-tune his entrepreneurial skills. By 2016, after launching on other ecommerce platforms such as WooCommerce, Magento and BigCommerce, Beeketing generated $2 million in yearly revenue. By January 2018, Beeketing was used by over 300,000 brands worldwide. Overtime, Beeketing became an integrated online marketing solution, launching for example the ShopBase platform which enabled customers and merchants to choose their shipping method. Through its international experience, Truong Quan’s company became an expert in cross-border trades.
In 2019, Truong Quan and Phuong Anh Ha bundled their ecommerce tools (mainly Beeketing and ShopBase) into the consolidated company OpenCommerce Group (OCG). In February 2022, OpenCommerce Group raised $7 million from the ISP VNG and the venture capital firm Do Ventures. OpenCommerce supported 86,700 merchants online in 195 different countries.
