Lisa Tzwu-Fang Su was born in Tainan, Taiwan in November 1986, but her family moved to the United States when she was three-years-old. Her Taiwanese parents, a statistician, and an accountant encouraged her to study math and science since she was a child. She wanted to become an engineer because she was curious about how things work.
She studied at Bronx High School of Science in New York, and then she entered the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). As an undergrad student, she manufactured test silicon wafers for graduate students, and that job interested her in semiconductors. She was a pioneer in silicon-on-insulator technology, that increase efficiency of transistors.
Lisa T. Su was on the technical staff at Texas Instruments Inc. in the Semiconductor Device and Process Center from 1994 to 1995. Lisa spent 13 years at IBM in various engineering and business leadership positions, including vice president of the Semiconductor Research and Development Center, where she was responsible for the strategic direction of IBM systems technologies, joint development alliances, and semiconductor R&D operations.
In 2007, she joined Freescale as Chief Technology Officer, where she led the company’s technology roadmap and research and development projects. She served as Senior Vice President and General Manager, Networking and Multimedia at Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. (a semiconductor manufacturer), and was responsible for international strategy, marketing, and engineering for the integrated communications and processor division. of company applications.
Su joined AMD in January 2012 as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the company’s global business divisions, and was responsible for the comprehensive business execution of AMD products and solutions. Lisa T. Su has published over 40 technical papers. In 2009, she was named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, was named one of Barron’s World’s Best Fifty CEOs in the World, and was recognized by Fortune magazine as one of “The World’s Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs,”. Bloomberg included her in its Top Fifty List.
In 2020, Dr. Su was ranked second on Fortune magazine’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” list and was elected to the American Academy of Sciences.
