MicroWine Predictor: an app that prevents wine contamination

National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) researchers developed an app that minimizes microbial contamination risks during wine production.

Wine production is taking advantage of technology in Argentina. National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) researchers developed an app that minimizes microbial contamination risks during wine production.

The app name is MicroWine Predictor. It helps producers to make the right decisions and to avoid contamination during the wine fermentation process.

María Elena Sturm, a specialist in INTA wine-disrupting microorganisms, said that the main benefit for the producer when using the app is the possibility to anticipate alterations during the process and to get ahead to make the necessary decisions to avoid them. Once the defect occurs, producers can’t reverse the process.

The app works by introducing different variables such as pH, ethanol, sulfur dioxide, and sugar concentration to calculate what are the chances of the alterations occur and take the necessary corrective measures. It also allows simulations with different values to guide the producer.

MicroWine Predictor is available for free on Google Play. At the moment it is only compatible with Android.

MicroWine Predictor was developed by Argentinian researchers.
