Doctoralia: a healthy startup in LatAm

The medical services platform has grown triple-digit in the last two years in Mexico and accounts for a fifth of the revenues of Grupo DocPlanner, after Brazil and Poland.

This medical platform has doubled its revenues for two consecutive years, and the diagnosis is encouraging: this trend will continue in Latin America.

What is Doctoralia?

Doctoralia is a medical platform to connect patients with doctors. It was founded in 2007 in Barcelona by Albert Armengol, Frederic Llordachs and David Díaz to offer information about doctors on the Internet. In 2016, it merged with DocPlanner, a Polish startup with the same line. Since then they have formed the DocPlanner Group and maintain their brands locally.

Doctoralia arrived in Mexico in 2012 but did not open offices until 2017. After that, the company has doubled its revenues and is ranking as a leading site for searches and reservations of medical appointments. The platform will extend its model not only with doctors but also with clinics and hospitals to maintain this growth.

At the end of 2019, Doctoralia México plans to operate in practically all states. At present his team is made up of 202 professionals. The company is headquartered in Mexico City and supported by consultants in Guadalajara, Monterrey, Queretaro, Puebla, Veracruz, Tijuana, Mérida, Ciudad Juárez, Torreón, La Paz, Hermosillo, Chihuahua, Colima, San Luis Potosí, Aguascalientes and Toluca.

The DocPlanner Group is one of the largest health marketplaces in the world. It is present in 15 countries and stands out in Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Colombia, and Chile. In Mexico, it invoiced 16.4% of its total revenues in 2018 (22.5M euros), which represents a fifth of the company’s market, behind Brazil and Poland.

In 2018, this medical platform reached 30M unique monthly users throughout the world, of which in Mexico they are close to 4M per month with an annual user expansion of 45%. Currently, in Mexico, it has more than 133K health specialists in its database.

In Doctoralia, patients can ask, give their opinion and find the medical services they need. Also, doctors and medical centers have available tools to manage their patients, improve the efficiency of their consultation and maintain an online presence. Doctoralia gets income from doctors, who pay a fee for the use of the platform.

Mexicans make 197K bookings of appointments with health professionals per month in Doctoralia. And with a high level of interaction: patients leave an average of 3K opinions about platform specialists.
